My Story

Chuchuca, where your child lives, is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is more than a two-hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa. Chuchuca is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major crops. The Quiché Indians who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization. They normally speak an Indian dialect called Quiché - however, Spanish is becoming more common. Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.

Hello! It is a pleasure to introduce Kevin Alexander Gomez de la Cruz. His birthdate is May 20, 2015. He is 9 years old.  He is in fourth grade and he is not repeating. In his free time, he likes to playing with his bicycle. He likes rabbits and his favorite color is blue. He likes to eat different foods but his favorite is Churrasco (roast meat). Kevin lives with his maternal grandparents. Their names are Silvia De La Cruz, who is a housewife, and Benito Gomez Riz. He is a day laborer and farmer. Sadly, Kevin believes that they are his real parents. But unfortunately, it is not so. Kevin`s real parents abandoned him. The grandparent’s do not know about the biological father. His biological mother is Santos Gomez De La Cruz but she abandoned him. Now she has another partner and lives in another village. When his real mother visits the family, he thinks that she is his aunt. The grandparents have not told him the truth because he is too young to understand it. Kevin and his grandfather are in good health thanks to God, but his grandmother suffers from diabetes. She just takes natural medicine. They are members of the Christ Church.

They live in their own house. It has two rooms and a kitchen. The rooms are made of block walls, tin sheet roof and concrete floor. The kitchen is made of wood walls, tin sheet roof and concrete floor. There is running water and electricity. The grandfather pays for these services. He pays the running water every year and the electricity every month.  He has some turkeys and hens. They are a family in need and the main need is groceries. Kevin gets to the feeding program with his friends. He walks around 30 minutes to get there. He enjoys being part of the feeding program. Thank you for reading his information.

Many blessings,

Kevin Alexander Gomez de la Cruz
