My Story

Chuchuca, where your child lives, is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is more than a two-hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa. Chuchuca is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major crops. The Quiché Indians who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization. They normally speak an Indian dialect called Quiché - however, Spanish is becoming more common. Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.

Hello! This is Yesica Lucrecia Morente Morente. I was born in Zacualpa Quiche on May 27, 2016, and I am already 8 years old. This year I am in second grade at school. I enjoy playing with my dolls. I love sheep and my favorite color is purple. The food I love eating is fried chicken. I live happily with my parents, three brothers and four sisters. My father´s name is Norberto Morente Ruiz and he works as a farmer. My mother´s name is Catarina Morente Luis. She is a housewife.  We are members of the Pentecostal Prince of Peace Church. Thanks to God, my family and I are in good health. Although my mother suffered from a facial paralysis recently, thanks to God, she visited a doctor and she has her treatment. We live in my grandfather´s house. He loans it to us. There are two rooms and a kitchen. It is made of adobe with a tin sheet roof and a dirt floor.

We have running water and electricity.  My parents pay the services. We raise some chickens. We have many needs, and some of them are groceries and to have our own house. I ask for your prayers for God to always help us. Thanks to God, my brother is enrolled in the feeding program too. We usually walk one hour to get there. For now, that is all. Many and rich blessings over you!

Kisses and hugs,

Yesica Lucrecia Morente Morente
