My Story

Zacualpa is a small but busy village in a mountain valley. The village is inhabited by both Quiche Mayans and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry). The prevalent language is Spanish. Families in this village live in one or two room homes generally constructed of either wood or adobe. Although many of the people are farmers, the village contains several small specialized stores, a body repair shop for buses, mechanics, plumbers and many other small town tradesmen. It also has a large open air market which serves much of the area. Even with all of this, the poverty level is very high and the children are very needy.

Hello! My full name is Deisy Roxana Cux Chingo and I am so happy to share a little bit out my life with you. I was born on October 22, 2014. I am 10 years old and fortunately, I am in good health. I am repeating second grade. My favorite pastime is playing with my dolls. I like doves and my favorite color is yellow. As for my favorite food, let me tell you that I love fried chicken. I live with my parents and siblings. I have four brothers and three sisters. I am glad because everybody is healthy. We attend the Catholic Church. My father is Jose Armando Cux Calachij. He is a day laborer and works about five days weekly to support our family. My mom also works hard to help my father with the household expenses. Her name is Maria Chingo Chingo and she washes clothes for other people twice a week. Besides that, she raises chickens for our consumption and occasional sales. Please pray for us and our needs. Our priorities are clothes and groceries.

By the grace of the Lord, my family and I live in our own house. It is made of adobe with a tin sheet roof and a dirt floor. It has one room, a separate kitchen, electricity, and an artisanal well. My parents pay for the electricity service monthly. My house is a 15-minute walk from the feeding program. I usually go there alongside my siblings. I say goodbye to you now, but I thank you so much for reading my information. See you later!

Kisses and hugs,

Deisy Roxana Cux Chingo
