My Story

Zacualpa is a small but busy village in a mountain valley. The village is inhabited by both Quiché Indians and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry). The prevalent language is Spanish. Families in this village live in one or two room homes generally constructed of either wood or adobe. Although many of the people are farmers, the village contains several small specialized stores, a body repair shop for buses, mechanics, plumbers and many other small-town tradesmen. It also has a large open-air market which serves much of the area. Even with all of this, the poverty level is very high and the children are very needy.

Hello! I am so excited to introduce myself through this. I am Karen Alexandra Garcia Chitic. My birth date is November 15th, 2019, I was born in Joyabaj, Quiche, Guatemala. I am 5 years old and I am a healthy girl. I am not attending school because of my young age.  I spend my time playing, I like dolls. My favorite color is pink and my favorite animal is the cat. I love eating fried chicken. I have four sisters but no brothers. Our pets are dogs and cats. I attend the Zacualpa feeding program and I get there in 15 minutes by tuk-tuk; my mother accompanies my sisters and me.

My father´s name is Jose Garcia Coj. He works as a farmer and construction helper to sustain our family needs. My mother´s name is Amanda Chitic Benito. She stays busy with the chores at home. We raise cows and pigs. My parents and sisters are in good health. My father owns the house in which we live. There are 2 adobe rooms with a tile roof and a cement floor. The kitchen is separated. We have electricity and my father pays the bill. We do not have running water, but we get water from a mechanical water well. We attend United Pentecostal Church. Well, this is all for now. May God bless you wherever you are!

Hugs with much love,

Karen Alexandra Garcia Chitic
