My Story

Zacualpa is a small but busy village in a mountain valley. The village is inhabited by both Quiché Indians and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry). The prevalent language is Spanish. Families in this village live in one or two room homes generally constructed of either wood or adobe. Although many of the people are farmers, the village contains several small specialized stores, a body repair shop for buses, mechanics, plumbers and many other small-town tradesmen. It also has a large open-air market which serves much of the area. Even with all of this, the poverty level is very high and the children are very needy.

Hello! I am Evelin Paola Garcia Pascual. I was born on September 14th, 2019, in Joyabaj, Quiche, Guatemala. I am 5 years old and I am a healthy girl. I am in pre-kindergarten at school. I like to play with my dolls. My favorite color is pink and my favorite animals are rabbits and dogs. The meals I love the most are Chow Mein and fried chicken. I have two brothers and no sisters. Our pet is a dog. My older brother and I attend the Zacualpa feeding program and we get there in 5 minutes by walking.

My father´s name is Pedro Garcia De La Cruz. He works in a restaurant and provides for our expenses. He traveled to the United States last year. My mother´s name is Magdalena Bernarda Pascual Hernandez. She takes care of the house and raises hens. My parents and siblings are in good health. We live in the house of one of my maternal uncles and do not pay rent because we are looking after the house. My great-grandmother is living with us. There are 8 rooms. We use two of them and the kitchen is separated. The house is made of adobe with a tile roof and a cement floor. There are running water and electricity services and my parents pay for them. We attend the Catholic Church. I appreciate you reading my information. May God bless you wherever you are!

Lots of love,

Evelin Paola Garcia Pascual
