My Story

Zacualpa is a small but busy village in a mountain valley. The village is inhabited by both Quiché Indians and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry). The prevalent language is Spanish. Families in this village live in one or two room homes generally constructed of either wood or adobe. Although many of the people are farmers, the village contains several small specialized stores, a body repair shop for buses, mechanics, plumbers and many other small-town tradesmen. It also has a large open-air market which serves much of the area. Even with all of this, the poverty level is very high and the children are very needy.

Hello! I am Madison Abigail Xon Garcia. My birth date is September 16^th, 2020, in Joyabaj, Quiche, Guatemala. I am 4 years old and I am a healthy girl. Due to my young age, I am not attending school yet. I like to play with my dolls. My favorite color is yellow and my favorite animals are chicks. I love to eat avocadoes. I have one brother and four sisters. I attend the Zacualpa feeding program with my sister and I get there in two minutes by walking.

My father is Jose Xon Morales. He works as a mason and sometimes, he drives a bus; he provides for our needs. My mother is Catarina Garcia de Xon. She tends a grocery store at home. My mother and my brothers are fine, but my father has been feeling ill. He does not want to go to the doctor to find out what is wrong with him. I would like you to pray for his health. We live in a rented house, and the monthly payment is Q3,500.00 = $467.00. The quantity is a bit high, and it is because of the grocery store we have. Fortunately, my older brother is contributing with the payment. There are three rooms and the kitchen is separated. The house is made of concrete blocks, a cement roof and a ceramic floor. There is running water and electricity which is included in the monthly fee. We attend Liberty Church from LW. Our essential needs are groceries.
