My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiche is always a challenge.

Hello! This is Diego Henderson Nas Gonzalez and it is a great blessing to share my information with you. I was born on February 10, 2020. Thankfully, I am in good health. I am 5 years old and this year, I am enrolled in pre-kinder. I like playing with my toy cars with my oldest brother. At the moment, I only have one brother. My favorite color is green and I love having fried chicken for my meals. I like domestic animals, but my favorite one is the dog. Now, let me tell you about my family. Thankfully, everybody is doing well. We attend a Christian Church. My father’s name is Miguel Nas Gonzalez. He works as a tuk-tuk taxi driver and farmer. My mother also works to help with the household expenses. Her name is Florinda Gonzalez Ventura and she embroiders typical blouses. Our priorities are corn, groceries, clothes, and shoes. So please, pray for my family.

We live with my grandmother and one of my uncles and his wife. They are our relatives on my father’s side. The house where we live belongs to my uncle. One part of the house is made of adobe and the other is wooden, with a tile roof and a concrete floor. It has four rooms, a separate kitchen made of wood, electricity, and running water. My uncle pays for the services and my parents buy food. We have a few chickens at home for our consumption. The feeding program is about one hour from my house. My brother and I usually get there on foot. I say goodbye to you now, but I hope to hear from you soon.

With much love,

Diego Henderson Nas Gonzalez
