My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiche is always a challenge.

I am so happy to say hello to you through this letter. My name is Alison Estefania Montufar Jimon and I was born on May 5, 2020. Fortunately, I am a healthy 4-year-old girl. I am in pre-kinder and I like the color purple. My favorite pastimes are playing with my dolls and pretending to cook with my kitchen toys in my free time. I love having fried chicken for my meals and my favorite animals are cows. Now, I want to tell you a little about my family. My father is Oscar Yovany Montufar Miculax. He makes a living by tending a grocery store in our village. My mother is Magdalena Jimon Osorio. She is an extraordinary woman because she is dedicated to our family and her studies to become a teacher. We are members of a Christian Church in our village. Thankfully, there is nobody sick at home. Let me tell you that I have no siblings. I am an only child.

We live with my grandparents on my mother’s side. They are the owners of the house where we live. Their house is made of adobe with a tin sheet roof and a dirt floor. It has four rooms and a separate kitchen in total. We only use one room. There is electricity and running water at home. My parents pay half of the bills for the services. I feel blessed to be part of Adopt a Child-LW. The feeding program is about 30 minutes from my house. I usually take a tuk-tuk taxi or a minibus to get there. Please take care of yourself! I would like to hear from you soon.

Kisses and hugs,

Alison Estefania Montufar Jimon
