My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiche is always a challenge.

My full name is Lucero Abigail Quej Naz and I am so happy to share a little bit about my life with you. I was born on March 29, 2014. Thankfully, I am a healthy 10-year-old girl. I attend school as a fifth grader. I like doing homework in my free time. My favorite pastime is reading books. My favorite color is sky-blue and I love having black beans and ground beef for my meals. My favorite animal is the cat. I live with my mother and siblings. Fortunately, they are doing well. I have two brothers and two sisters. My mother’s name is Herminia Noemi Naz Ordonez. She is a housewife and embroiders typical blouses to earn a little income and help at home with the expenses. My father His name is Hugo Gonzalo Quej Ma. He does not live with us because he traveled to the United States about one and a half years ago. He is in touch with us, so we know that he makes a living by working in the construction area. Fortunately, he is doing well and helps us economically every 15 days.

I beg you to pray for my family and our needs, especially for food. In advance, thank you very much. We are members of a Christian Church. Thankfully, we live in our own house. My grandmother and aunt, on my mother’s side, also live with us. Our house is made of adobe with a tin sheet roof and a concrete floor. It has four rooms, a separate kitchen, electricity, and a well to get water. My family and I raise a few chickens and pigs at home. We have one cat as a pet. We live about 20 minutes from the feeding program. I usually get there on foot. I will leave you now, but I hope to hear from you soon.

Kisses and hugs,

Lucero Abigail Quej Naz
