My Story

Pasojoc is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is more than a two hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa. Pasojoc is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major corps. The Quiche Mayans who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization. They normally speak a Mayan dialect called Quiche - however, Spanish is becoming more common. Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.

Hello! Receive a cordial and affectionate greeting; my name is Geidy Sheily Carolina Toj Garcia, and I am so excited to share with you some information about my family and me so you can get to know us better. I am in good health. I am 6 years old, and my birthday is on April 27. I am a 1st grader this year, and I enjoy playing ball to have fun. I love pink, my favorite animal is the dove, and fried chicken is what I like to eat the most. It is a blessing for me to be part of the feeding program; I have four brothers and three sisters. Three of my siblings are also registered and we come together with our mother or grandmother since we live one hour away from the program.

Thankfully, my father struggles to cover our needs; he works with cattle in the United States. He has been there for about five years, and fortunately, he keeps in touch with us and sends us a monthly economic support. My mother is a housewife, looks after us and does the chores. We live in our own house; it consists of three rooms, and a kitchen; it is made of adobe, tin sheet roof, and dirt floor. We get our water from a spring. We have electricity, and my father sends us the money to pay for it monthly. My paternal grandmother lives with us, and we also have some hens at home. Some of our needs are corn and groceries, but every time we have a need, we put everything in God’s hands. He always helps us to go ahead; we are members of the Catholic Church. Before saying goodbye, I want you to know that my mother provided all this information for my enrollment. May the Lord bless you and your family greatly and have a great day.

Many Blessings

Geidy Sheily Carolina Toj Garcia
