My Story

Pasojoc is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is more than a two hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa. Pasojoc is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major corps. The Quiche Mayans who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization. They normally speak a Mayan dialect called Quiche - however, Spanish is becoming more common. Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.

Receive a cordial and affectionate greeting on behalf of our Heavenly Father. I pray that you are well and that you like my letter. I am sharing with you something about my family and me so you can get to know us better. My name is Lesly Greisy Ruiz Pu, and I am 4 years old since I was born on December 19th, 2020. I am in pre-kindergarten this year. I enjoy playing with my dolls in my free time, and what I like to eat the most is noodles. My favorite animal is the tiger, and I like pink. I have one brother and two sisters. Fortunately, they are also registered at the feeding program like me. We walk 15 minutes to arrive, and our big sister looks after us.

Thankfully, my parents are in good health. My father covers our needs by working and living in the United States; he works with cattle. He calls us every day and sends us an economic support every month. My mother is a housewife, and she also raises her hens to sell to contribute with our expenses. Some of our needs are groceries and clothes, but we trust in God and are sure that He will give us what we need; we are members of Prince of Peace Church.  We live in a house that belongs to my mother, it has one room and a kitchen; it is made of wooden board walls, tin sheet roof, and dirt floor. We do not have running water, so we get it from a river through a hose; we do have electricity, and my mother pays for it every month. It is time to say goodbye, but I want you to know that my mother enrolled me at the feeding program and provided all this information. May God bless you, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

In Jesus Name,
