My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiche is always a challenge.

Hello! My full name is Jasson Yat Morales and it is a pleasure to share my information with you. I was born on December 11, 2015. I am a healthy 9-year-old boy and I love playing soccer. I am in third grade this year. My favorite color is blue. I love having beef tacos for my meals and my favorite animals are hens. Now, let me tell you a little about my family. Thankfully, everybody is doing well. We are members of a Christian Church called Prince of Peace Church. My father’s name is Camilo Yat Gomez. He works as a mason and does his best to support our family. Our priorities are groceries and school supplies for my siblings and me. I have two brothers and four sisters. My mother’s name is Tomasa Morales Ren. She keeps busy with household chores and sells fruits at the market on Sundays. She also raises a few chickens for occasional sales.

Fortunately, we live in our own house. It is made of adobe with a tin sheet and tile roof and concrete floor. It has three rooms, a separate kitchen, electricity, and running water. My father is the one who pays for those services. Besides chickens, we raise turkeys and pigs at home. LW-Adopt a Child is a great blessing for my family and me. The feeding program is about 15 minutes from our house. We usually walk for 10 minutes to reach the bus stop and spend 5 minutes more on the minibus to get there on time. I will leave you now, but I send you many hugs from Guatemala. Until next time!

Sincerely yours,

Jasson Yat Morales
