Chixocol
Guatemala
Child
Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiché is always a challenge.
Hello! I am so excited to introduce myself in this opportunity. I am Diana Griselda Gomez Luis. I was born on August 25th, 2020, in Joyabaj, Quiche, Guatemala. I am 4 years old and I am a healthy girl. I do not attend school because I am too young. I like to play with my dolls. My favorite color is pink and my favorite animal is the duck. I love to eat fried chicken. I have one brother and two sisters. I attend the Chixocol feeding program with my siblings and it takes me 3 minutes to arrive there.
My father´s name is Dionicio Idelfonso Gomez Luis. He works by washing dishes in a restaurant in the United States. He traveled to that country about two years ago. My mother´s name is Estela Luis Aguilar de Gomez. She is a housewife and raises hens and ducks. My family is in good health. We are members of the Catholic Church. My mother owns the house in which we live; there are two adobe room with a tin sheet roof and a dirt floor. The kitchen is separated. We have running water and electricity services; my mother pays for them. Our essential needs are groceries. Thank you so much for reading my letter. May God bless you!
Lots of love,
