My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiché is always a challenge.

Hello! My name is Arlon Enrique Domingo Lares Ordonez. I was born on April 28th, 2021, in Joyabaj, Quiche, Guatemala. I am 4 years old and I am a healthy boy. Since I am too young, I am not attending school yet. I like to play with my ball and toy cars. I also like to play with my little sister. My favorite color is blue and my favorite animal is the sheep. I love to eat fried chicken. I have only one sister. I am very happy to be registered in the Chixocol feeding program; I get there by walking in 30 minutes or by tuk-tuk or moto taxi; my mother accompanies me.

My father´s name is Enrique Lares Velasquez. He works as a construction helper. My mother´s name is Lucia Ordonez Martin. She does the housework and raises hens and pigs. My family is in good health. We attend Catholic church. We are living in my paternal grandparents’ house, and my grandma and one uncle also live there. There are four rooms made one part of adobe and the other with concrete blocks, a tin sheet roof and a dirt floor. The kitchen is separated. There are running water and electricity services; my parents contribute to pay for them. Our greatest needs are groceries, and we pray to our Lord that one day we can have our own house. This is all for now. Many and abundant blessings over you!

Warm hugs,

Arlon Enrique Domingo Lares Ordonez
