My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiché is always a challenge.

Hello! I am very happy to share my information through this. My full name is Manuel Mauricio Garcia Jimon. My birth date is March 29th, 2019, and I was born in Zacualpa, Quiche, Guatemala. I am now 6 years old, and thanks to God, I am healthy. I attend kindergarten at school this year. I like to play with my toy cars and play football. My favorite color is blue and the animal I like the most is the cat. I love eating black beans with rice. I live with my parents, two brothers and three sisters. Our pets are a dog and a cat. Thankfully, my whole family is doing well. I am very happy to be part of the feeding program; I walk 40 minutes to arrive there.

My father is Manuel Garcia Panjoj. He works both as a farmer and as a day laborer. Unfortunately, he is not able to find a good job in the summer season and only works two or three days weekly. It is complicated because his pay is not enough to provide for all our needs. My mother´s name is Cecilia Jimon Tino de Garcia. She takes care of the house and also raises hens. We are members of the Jesus the Good Road Church. Thank God, my parents own the house in which we live. There are three adobe rooms, the roof is made of tin sheets and has a cement floor. The kitchen is separate. We have running water and electricity services; my father pays for those services. As a family, our greatest needs are groceries and clothes. Thank you for reading my letter. Many and abundant blessings over you!

Hugs and kisses,

Manuel Mauricio Garcia Jimon
