My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiché is always a challenge.

Hello! I am so excited to share my information in this opportunity. My name is Ashly Stephanie Xon Gonzalez. My birth date is September 28th, 2020, and I was born in Zacualpa, Quiche, Guatemala. I am 4 years old and I am a healthy girl. I attend pre-kindergarten this year. I like to play with my dolls. My favorite color is purple and my favorite animal is the cat. I love to eat fried chicken. I have eight sisters, but no brothers. I am very happy to be registered in the Chixocol feeding program; I arrive there by walking in one hour and 30 minutes; my mother accompanies me.

My father is Israel Xon Aguilar. He does farm work for other people. My mother is Jacinta Gonzalez Guarcas de Xon. She does the housework and raises hens, sheep and pigs; we use some for our food and some others for selling. My mother and siblings are in good health, but my father is suffering from asthma. When he feels really sick, he goes to the local health center to receive medical attention. We attend Assembly of God Church. My father is the owner of the house in which we live; there are two rooms made of adobe with a tin sheet roof and a cement floor.  The kitchen is separated. We have running water and electricity services; my father pays for them. Our greatest needs are groceries, corn, clothes and footwear. Thank you for reading my letter. I hope our Lord spreads many blessings over you!

Lots of love,

Ashly Stephanie Xon Gonzalez
