Chixocol
Guatemala
Child
Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiché is always a challenge.
Hello! I am very happy to introduce myself in this opportunity. My name is Nelson Misael Cac Luis. My birth date is August 1st, 2018, and I was born in Joyabaj, Quiche, Guatemala. I am 6 years old and I am a healthy boy. I am attending kindergarten this year. I enjoy playing tag and riding on a bicycle. My favorite color is blue and my favorite animal is the dog. The food I love the most is fried chicken. I have one brother and two sisters. I am very happy to be registered in the Chixocol feeding program, and I go with my siblings; I get there in 45 minutes by walking or in 15 minutes by tuk-tuk. I usually go with my siblings and cousins.
My father´s name is Cesar Cac Perez. He works as a bricklayer, and thankfully, he has a job. Other times, he works as a day laborer. My mother´s name is Magdalena Luis De La Cruz. She is a housewife and goes to sell homemade ice cream and “chocobananos” (frozen bananas covered with chocolate) at the school in the village. She also makes cross-stitch blouses to sell. Additionally, she raises hens, turkeys and pigs. My family is in good health. We attend the Ebenezer Methodist Church. The house in which we live belongs to my paternal grandmother; she lives there, and some uncles and cousins live there too. There are six adobe rooms, the roof is made of tin sheets and it has a dirt floor. The kitchen is separated. We have running water and electricity services; my parents contribute to pay the bills with the other relatives. Our greatest needs are groceries. I appreciate that you are taking the time to read my information. Many and rich blessings on your life!
With much love,
Nelson Misael Cac Luis
