My Story

Duenas, where your child lives, is a small farming village located at the foot of one of Guatemala's active volcanoes, Fuego (Fire). The fertile ground around the village allows for the cultivation of roses and coffee, two of Guatemala's largest exports. Most of the families in this area live in one or two room wooden or adobe houses with tin roofs. Electricity is available to those who can afford it. Running water is available - however, most homes do not have indoor plumbing. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider education of value. Life in Duenas is quiet and sometimes difficult.

Hello! How are you? My name is Dalia Sofia Santos Chuy, and I was born on September 21, 2018; so now, I am 6 years old. I am in kindergarten this year, and in my free time, I like running with my sister and riding my bicycle. Thankfully, I am in good health. My favorite color is pink, and I love cats. I really enjoy eating chicken stew. I only have one sister, and she is registered at the feeding program too. I have one cat and two hens as pets. Our house is located 15 minutes away from the program, and I walk to get there. My family and I are members of the Catholic Church.

My father’s name is Esteban Santos Yuca, and he works as a farmer in our town. My mother’s name is Maria Josefina Chuy Cojolon, and she is a housewife. We live in a rented house, and we pay Q300.00 quetzals ($40.00) per month. The house has one room and a kitchen. The house is made of tin sheets with a tin sheet roof and dirt floor. We have electricity and running water service; my father pays these bills every month. We are a humble family and our frequent needs are groceries. This is my information, and my mother helped me with it. I hope you find it interesting.

With much love
