My Story

Pasojoc III, where your child lives, is located in an extremely remote area of the mountains in Quiche, Guatemala.  Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is a 3-hour walk to the nearest market town.  The people who inhabit the area are Quiche Mayans who can trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization.  They normally speak a Mayan dialect called Quiche, however, Spanish is becoming more common.  The climate is basically warm, but it can get very cold at night.  Houses in this area are typically constructed of adobe with tin sheet or tile roofs and dirt floors.  Pasojoc III is an area rich with natural resources.  It is a farming area where the inhabitants grow staples such as corn, beans and other types of vegetables. Many families also raise domestic animals such as sheep, goats, cows and chickens.

I greet you cordially and I am glad because I have the opportunity to tell you about my personal information. This is Rosaria Yesenia Hernandez Hernandez and I am 5 years old. My birthdate is May 4, 2020 and I was born in Zacualpa Quiche. I am not in school due to my young age, so I stay at home and spend my time playing dolls. I like the color red. I walk for twenty minutes to attend the feeding program. We belong to the Prince of Peace Christian Church. I live under my parent`s care. They are Domingo Hernandez de la Cruz and Dominga Hernandez Grave. My father earns a living by working as a farmer and day laborer while my mother is a housewife and takes care of our family. Sometimes, my father suffers from pain in his body because he always works hard. My mother and I are well and in good health.  We are a needy family and our priority needs are groceries, corn and tin sheets because my house is very damaged, and the roof is made of nylon. We believe in God and that he will provide for our needs.

I live in my parent`s house and we have one room made of wooden planks and posts, a nylon roof and dirt floors. We have a small space in the room to cook. We have electricity and my father pays for the service every month. We get the water from a natural spring. We have hens at home but we would like to have some chicks because we have space in our house for them.  I hope you like to read my news and thank you for your attention. Blessings to you!

Warm wishes,

Rosaria Yesenia Hernandez Hernandez
