My Story

Pasojoc is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is more than a two hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa. Pasojoc is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major crops. The Quiché Indians who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization. They normally speak an Indian dialect called Quiché - however, Spanish is becoming more common. Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.

Hello! My name is Deisy Aracely Jimon Garcia. I was born on September 23, 2017, in Zacualpa, Quiche, Guatemala. I am 8 years old and I am in good health. I am a first-grade student this year. I like to play with my dolls in my free time. I love the color pink and the animal I like the most is the dove. I love eating eggs with sausages. I have two brothers and three sisters. I am very happy to be registered in the feeding program; I get there by walking in one hour, and my mom accompanies me.

My father´s name is Julio Jimon Castro. He works both as a farmer and day laborer; he provides for our home needs. My mother´s name is Marcelina Garcia Simaj. She works as a day laborer; she goes to wash clothes with our neighbors or picks husk tomatoes. Besides that, she raises hens and pigs to sell. By the grace of God, my family is healthy. We attend a Prince of Peace Church. Thanks to God, my mother owns the house in which we are living. There is one adobe room with a tin sheet roof and a dirt floor. The kitchen is separate. We do not have running water or electricity. Fortunately, one of my uncles shares water with us and does not ask for any payment. As for electricity, my grandfather shares with us, and my parents pay half of the bill every month. Our greatest need is to obtain water service at home. Please join us in prayer for our Lord to provide for this project. I say goodbye to you for now, and I would like to hear news from you soon. May our Lord bless you wherever you are!

Kisses and hugs,

Deisy Aracely Jimon Garcia
