My Story

Tunajá is a very primitive area of the state of Quiché, Guatemala.  The inhabitants are Quiché Indians who trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization.  The prevalent language is the Indian dialect - Quiché.  The people are either farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their laborers. Very little money ever changes hands as they use a barter system.  Public education is available - however, most families cannot afford it.  Electricity and running water are not available in most of the area.  Life in Tunajá is extremely difficult.

Warm greetings to you! This is Kelvin Alexander Samuel Gutierrez Gomez, and it is my pleasure to introduce myself. I was born on March 12, 2020. I am 5 years old. I am in pre-kinder at school. My favorite meal is chicken soup. I like ducks. In my free time, I play with Legos. I like orange. Thank God, I enjoy good health currently. I am an only child. For that reason, my grandmother is the one who takes me to the feeding program. We usually take a bus for 10 minutes to get there.

Unfortunately, we do not own a house, so we live with my maternal grandparents. The humble house has three rooms of which we use only two and a separate kitchen. It is made of block, tin sheet roof and granite floor. There is running water and electricity services. My father pays for the services every other month. Our domestic animals are chickens. Our necessities are food and corn.

I live with my parents Elias Alexander Gutierrez Tino and Evarista Gomez Gomez. My father is currently working as an Evangelistic teacher. Moreover, he has a tuc tuc to transport people. On the other hand, my mother is a primary teacher. Both are healthy thanks to God. My maternal grandmother takes care of us when my parents are working. Thankfully, their health is good. We attend the House of Prayer church as a family. Ok, I appreciate that you read this. I love you so much and send my best wishes to your family and you.

Kisses and hugs,

Kelvin Alexander Samuel Gutierrez Gomez
