Chuchucá
Guatemala
Child
Chuchuca, where your child lives, is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is more than a two hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa. Chuchuca is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major corps. The Quiche Mayans who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization. They normally speak a Mayan dialect called Quiche - however, Spanish is becoming more common. Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.
Hello! I am pleased to know you are reading my information. I hope you find it engaging. My name is Deisy Natalia Macarena Garcia Garcia, and I was born on November 16, 2019. I am a healthy 5-year-old girl. I still do not attend school, but I hope to do it soon. My favorite pastime is playing with my dolls. I love the color green. My favorite food is fried chicken, and I like cats. Now, let me tell you a little about my family. My father is Camilo Garcia Gomez. He is a farmer and works in the corn crops of our neighbors. He also works on a sugar cane plantation at the coast for two or three months. He does his best to cover our needs like food, especially corn which is essential for our diet.
My mother is Eva Garcia Garcia. She keeps busy doing the chores and taking care of my siblings and me. I have two brothers and three sisters. Please pray for my family. We do not attend any church, but I hope it changes soon. My family and I live in our own house, although my father is the legal owner. The house is made of adobe with a tin sheet roof and a dirt floor. It has two rooms, a separate kitchen, and running water. There is no electricity at home, but we use candles at night. We have chickens and pigs at home for our consumption. We also have a dog as a pet. I am glad to tell you that my house is near the feeding program. I usually walk for about five minutes to get there. Thank you so much for reading my letter! My older sister, Catarina Garcia, and a staff member of LW helped me write it.
Kind regards,
Deisy Natalia Macarena Garcia Garcia
