Chixocol
Guatemala
Child
Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiché is always a challenge.
Hello! My name is Nelson Francisco Riz Suar, and I am a healthy boy. I was born on July 29, 2018, so I am 7 years old now. I am in kindergarten this year, and in my free time, I play toy cars. I like the color yellow, and I love puppies. My favorite foods are spaghetti and fried chicken. I have two brothers and three sisters, and three of them are registered at the feeding program too. We take a microbus to arrive at the program, and it takes us 10 minutes. As a family, we are attending Assembly of God Church. Our needs are groceries, so please pray for it.
My father is Roberto Riz Barrera, and he works as a farmer and day laborer to cover our needs. My mother is Olga Suar de la Cruz, and she is a housewife. Thank God, my parents are both in good health. We are living in my paternal grandparents’ home, and we share the house with other relatives. The house has three rooms and a separated kitchen, and it is made of adobe with a tile roof and concrete floor. We have running water and electricity services. We have hens at home. I say goodbye to you for now.
With much love
Nelson Francisco Riz Suar
