My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiché is always a challenge.

Hello! My name is Antony Isaias Luis Garcia, and I am a healthy boy. I was born on November 15, 2019, so I am 5 years old now. I am not attending school yet due to my age, so I stay at home playing soccer and with my toys. I like the color white, and I love chicks. My favorite food is chicken with tomato sauce. I have one brother and one sister, and one of them is registered at the feeding program too. We walk for 40 minutes to arrive at the program. As a family, we are attending a church. Please pray for us and our needs which are groceries, clothes and shoes.

My father’s name was Jose Hector Luis Castro, and sadly, he passed away two years ago due to a motorcycle accident. My mother’s name is Juana Hermelinda Garcia de la Cruz de Luis, and she works as a maid to cover our needs. We have our own house, but we moved to live to my maternal grandparents when my father passed away because my mother started to work in another town. She comes to visit us from time to time and brings money for our needs. My grandparents’ names are Sabino and Carmen. My grandpa is a mason and my grandma is a housewife. Their house has three rooms and a kitchen, and it is made of adobe with a tin sheet roof. I hope you enjoy my letter.
