My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years, electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiché is always a challenge.

Good morning, I am so excited to introduce myself in this opportunity! My full name is Dilan Omar Luis Gutierrez. I was born on August 13^th of 2021, in Zacualpa, Quiche, Guatemala. I am already 4 years old. My father´s name is Alberto Luis Aguilar. He works both as a farmer and construction assistant; he provides for our home needs. My mother´s name is Maria Gutierrez Garcia. She is a housewife and raises hens to sell to help herself economically. I have one brother and three sisters. I am so happy to tell you that my loved ones and I are in good health.

Since I am very young, I am not attending school yet. So, I stay at home and play with my toy cars. I love eating fried chicken. The animal I like the most is the cat. My favorite color is blue. We are members of the Assembly of God Church. Thankfully, we live in our own property; there are three rooms and a separated kitchen. It is an adobe house with a tin sheet roof and a cement floor. We have running water and electricity services. The electricity payment is monthly, and the water is yearly; my parents pay for them. The water is Q220.00 = $30.00. Our greatest need is school support. I am so blessed to be registered in the feeding program; my siblings and I walk five minutes to arrive. I say goodbye to you for now. Many and rich blessings!
