My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years, electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiché is always a challenge.

Hello, it is my pleasure to greet you and introduce myself in this opportunity. My full name is Edvin de Leon Gomez. I was born on October 3^rd of 2019, in Zacualpa, Quiche, Guatemala. I turn 6 years old this year. My father´s name is Francisco de Leon de la Cruz. He is working as a farmer and making artisanal wells. He is supplying our home needs. My mother´s name is Maria Gomez Calachij. She does the housework and raises hens to sell. I have four brothers and one sister. Our pets are a few dogs. By the grace of God, my family and I are doing well.

This year, I am not attending school yet. So, I stay at home and play football. I love the color blue, and I like rabbits. My favorite food is fried chicken. My family and I attend Assembly of God Church. We do not own our own house, and thankfully, my grandparents have loaned us a house. It is an adobe house with three rooms, a tin sheet roof and a cement floor. The kitchen is separated. There is running water and electricity and my father pays for those services. As a family, our greatest needs are corn, groceries, clothes and footwear. I am so happy to be part of the feeding program; I attend alongside my siblings and we walk 30 minutes to arrive.
