My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years, electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiché is always a challenge.

I am so glad to greet you and share my information through this! My name is Yoselin Noemy Us Garcia. I was born on April 22th of 2020, in Joyabaj, Quiche, Guatemala. I am a 5-year-old girl. My father´s name is Francisco Us Ajqui. He works both as a farmer and day laborer; fortunately, he supplies our needs. My mother´s name is Elvira Garcia Jimon de Us. She stays at home doing the housework and she raises hens and pigs. I have only one sister, and she is older than me.

This is my first year at school and I am in Pre-kindergarten. My hobby is to play football. I love the color blue, and the animal I love the most is the cat. My favorite food is grilled meat. My family and I attend a Christian Church. Thanks to God, we live in our property; there are two rooms. We use one as a bedroom and one as a kitchen. The house is made of adobe with a tile roof and a dirt floor. There is electricity and my father pays for it monthly. We do not have running water, but my paternal grandparents share it with us and we do not pay for it. The greatest need for us is school support. I am so grateful to be registered in the feeding program and I attend alongside my sister; we walk 30 minutes to arrive. This is all for now. Every kind of blessing over you!

Lots of love,

Yoselin Noemy Us Garcia
