Chixocol
Guatemala
Child
Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiché is always a challenge.
I greet you with much love. My name is Sabino Cac Guarcas, and I am fine. I was born on November 21, 2019, and I am 5 years old. I am attending school, and I am in pre-kindergarten. In my free time, I play soccer and toy cars. I like the color red, and I love parrots. My favorite food is fried chicken. I have one brother and two sisters, and two of them are registered at the feeding program too. We walk for one hour to arrive at the program, and our oldest sister accompanies us. My family and I attend Prince of Peace Church. Please pray for us and our needs which are groceries and clothes.
My father’s name is Rodrigo Cac Perez, and he works as a mason helper to cover our needs. My mother’s name is Martha Guarcas Nix, and she embroiders blouses and napkins to help with the income. My parents are in good health. We live in my paternal grandmother’s house, and we share it with my uncles, aunts and cousins. It has three rooms and a kitchen, and it is made of adobe with a tin sheet roof and dirt floor. We have running water and electricity services, and my dad and grandma pay these bills. We have hens and a pig at home. My mom helped me with this letter, and I hope you find it interesting.
Kisses and hugs
Sabino Cac Guarcas
