Chixocol
Guatemala
Child
Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiché is always a challenge.
Hello! How are you? I am Yadira Isabel Tzoy Gonzalez, and I am fine and healthy. I was born on October 15, 2014, and I am 10 years old now. I am attending school, and I am in 4th grade. In my free time, I run and play hide-and-seek. I like the color red, and I love cats. My favorite food is fried chicken. I have one brother, and one sister who is registered at the feeding program too. We take a moto-taxi to arrive at the program, and it takes us 15 minutes to get there; we pay Q25.00 quetzals (more than $3) for the trip and my mother or father accompanies us. My family and I attend the Catholic Church. Please pray for us and our needs which are groceries.
My father’s name is Justo Antonio Tzoy Velasquez, and he works as a day laborer; currently, he is also working in his corn crops. I would like to ask for your prayers for my dad because he lost the vision in one of his eyes. My mother’s name is Damiana Gonzalez Guarcas, and she works hard at home. We live in our own house, and it has three rooms and a kitchen. It is made of adobe with a tin sheet roof and concrete floor. We have running water and electricity services, and my dad pays these bills. We have hens at home. My mom helped me with this letter, and I hope to have news from you soon.
Cordially yours
Yadira Isabel Tzoy Gonzalez
