My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiché is always a challenge.

Hello. My name is Celestina Odilia Cac Luis, and this is a little about me. I was born on August 29, 2020, and I am 5 years old. I am fine and healthy, and I am attending pre-school. In my free time, I play toy dishes and dolls. I like the color red, and I love dogs. My favorite food is fried chicken. I have two brothers and one sister, and two of them are registered at the feeding program. We walk for 30 minutes to arrive at the program, or we get a moto-taxi to arrive there in 15 minutes. My family and I attend Ebenezer Methodist Church. We are a humble family, and our frequent needs are groceries.

My father’s name is Cesar Cac Perez, and he works as a mason helper to cover our needs. My mother’s name is Magdalena Luis De La Cruz, and she works hard at home. We do not have our own house, so we live with my paternal grandparents, Sabino and Celestina. Their house has five rooms and a kitchen, and it is made of adobe with a tin sheet roof and dirt floor. We have running water and electricity services. We have hens and pigs at home. My grandma raises domestic animals to help with the home expenses. My mom helped me with this letter, and I hope you like it.

Sincerely yours

Celestina Odilia Cac Luis
