My Story

Zacualpa is a small but busy village in a mountain valley.  The village is inhabited by both Quiché Indians and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry). The prevalent language is Spanish.  Families in this village live in one or two room homes generally constructed of either wood or adobe.  Although many of the people are farmers, the village contains several small specialized stores, a body repair shop for buses, mechanics, plumbers and many other small-town tradesmen.   It also has a large open-air market which serves much of the area.  Even with all of this, the poverty level is very high and the children are very needy.

It is a nice day to greet you hoping you are receiving the blessings of our Lord Jesus in your life. My name is Ashly Paola Lux Chingo and I was born in Joyabaj, Quiche on October 6, 2020. I will turn 5 years old soon. I am not attending school yet due to my age. I stay at home and play with dolls. I am in good health and I love cats. I like yellow color and my favorite food is fried chicken. I have two brothers and one sister and my brother Pablo Ronaldo is part of this project. We attend together along with my mother or father and we walk 30 minutes to arrive there. Sometimes we travel in moto-taxi (tuk-tuk) and we are there in fifteen minutes. By the grace of God, my parents are in good health and their names are Rosa Chingo de la Cruz and Jose Lux Garcia. My mother is a housewife and looks after us while my father earns a living by working as a farmer and day laborer. He is the only one that sustains us financially, but sometimes, it is so difficult for him to cover every expense. Our frequent needs are groceries and clothing. We are believers in Jesus and we persevere in Jerusalem Christian Church.

We live in my father`s house and it consists of two rooms and one kitchen. The walls are made of block. We have a cement roof and ceramic floors. We have running water and electricity. My father pays for the services. We have cows, hens, one cat, one dog and one pig at home, but we would like to have some chicks, and thanks to God, we have enough space for them in the house. Thank you for taking the time to read my news. I send you my best wishes!

A bunch of hugs,

Ashly Paola Lux Chingo
